Information on Unemployment in the Czech Republic by October 31, 2013

By October 31, 2013 job offices registered altogether 556,681 job seekers. That is by 377 less than at the end of September 2013. The number of job seekers increased by 59,919 persons compared with the same period of the preceding year. The number of available job seekers (job seekers currently available for work) was 541,013 (540,419 in age 15 to 64 years).

In the course of October, job offices registered altogether 46,343 newcomers. That is by 18,777 job seekers less than in the preceding month and by 4,476 newly registered job seekers less than in October of the preceding year.

In October, job offices registration was terminated with 46,720 job seekers. New jobs have been taken up by 19,930 persons. In the course of the above-said month, job offices excluded 26,790 job seekers due to other reasons.

A monthly decrease of unemployed was registered by 42 relatively the greatest decrease was monitored in districts offices Rychnov nad Kněžnou (3.6 %), Mladá Boleslav and Tachov (both 2.5 %), Ústí nad Orlicí (2.2 %). A monthly increase of unemployed was registered by 34 districts in the Czech Republic relatively the greatest increase was monitored in districts České Budějovice (3.1 %), Jindřichův Hradec (3.0 %), Pardubice (2.8 %) and Jeseník (2.6 %).

At the end of October, job offices registered 282,693 female job seekers, that is 50.8 % of the unemployed in total, and 61,286 persons with reduced working capacity, that is 11.0 % of the unemployed in total.

By October 31, 2013, 41,453 school leavers with all levels of education and juveniles were registered. Thus they share in the total unemployment by 7.4 % (September 2013 – 7.4 %, October 2012 – 7.4 %).

In October 2013, job offices paid off unemployment benefits to 103,838 job seekers, that is 18.7 % of all job seekers under registration (September 2013 – 18.7 %, October 2012 – 18.6 %).

Since 1st January 2013, the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs has replaced the indicator of registered unemployment with a new indicator named the share of unemployed persons. It is the ratio of available job seekers aged 15 to 64 years in the population of the same age.

By October 31, 2013, the share of unemployed was 7.6 % (September 2013 – 7.6 %, October 2012 – 6.7 %, time series - /web/en/unemployment-in-the-czech-republic). Share of unemployed higher than average of the Czech Republic was shown in 37 districts, the highest being in Most (13.5 %), Bruntál and Ústí nad Labem (both 12.5 %) and Karviná (12.1 %). The lowest share of unemployed was in districts of Praha-východ (3.4 %), Praha-západ (4.3 %), Pelhřimov (4.5 %), Mladá Boleslav and Prachatice (both 4.6 %). Share of unemployed - women was 7.8 % and share of unemployed - men was 7.4 %.

By October 31, 2013, job offices registered altogether 39,137 vacancies. That is by 2,285 vacancies less than in the preceding month and by 1,592 vacancies less than in the same period of the preceding year. At present, there have been 14.2 job seekers for one vacancy at average, the highest amount being in districts of Karviná (56.7), Bruntál (51.9) and Jeseník (44.7). In this monitored period, there were registered by job offices 4,519 vacancies for persons with reduced working capacity, that is 13.6 seekers per vacancy. In the case of school leavers and juveniles, there were registered altogether 9,694 vacancies, that is 4.3 seekers per vacancy.

Unemployment rate (EUROSTAT - ILO) was 6.9 % in September 2013.
