Information on Unemployment in the Czech Republic by March 31, 2013

By March 31, 2013 job offices registered altogether 587,768 job seekers. That is by 5,915 less than at the end of February 2013. The number of job seekers increased by 62,588 persons compared with the same period of the preceding year. The number of available job seekers (job seekers currently available for work) was 574,418.

In the course of March, job offices registered altogether 43,899 newcomers. That is by 861 job seekers less than in the preceding month and by 5,440 newly registered job seekers less than in March of the preceding year.

In March, job offices registration was terminated with 49,814 job seekers. New jobs have been taken up by 26,587 persons. In the course of the above-said month, job offices excluded 23,126 job seekers due to other reasons.

A monthly decrease of unemployed was registered by 57 districts in the Czech Republic – relatively the greatest increase was monitored in districts Prachatice (10.2 %), Chrudim (7.8 %), Klatovy (6.2 %), Břeclav (6.1 %), Jindřichův Hradec (5.6 %) and Znojmo (5.5 %).

At the end of March, job offices registered 276,167 female job seekers, that is 47.0 % of the unemployed in total, and 63,478 persons with reduced working capacity, that is 10.8 % of the unemployed in total.

By March 31, 2013, 35,438 school leavers with all levels of education and juveniles were registered. Thus they share in the total unemployment by 6.0 % (February 2013 – 6.0 %, March 2012 – 5.5 %).

In March 2013, job offices paid off unemployment benefits to 132,398 job seekers, that is 22.5 % of all job seekers under registration (February 2013 – 24.2 %, March 2012 – 24.0 %).

Since 1st January 2013, the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs has replaced the indicator of registered unemployment with a new indicator named the share of unemployed persons. It is the ratio of available job seekers aged 15 to 64 years in the population of the same age.

By March 31, 2013, the share of unemployed was 8.0 % (February 2013 – 8.1 %, March 2012 – 7.0 %, time series - /web/en/unemployment-in-the-czech-republic). Share of unemployed same or higher than average of the Czech Republic was shown in 43 districts, the highest being in Bruntál (14.0 %), Jeseník (13.7 %), Most (13.6 %) and Ústí nad Labem (12.2 %).The lowest unemployment rate was in districts of Praha-východ (3.4 %), Praha-západ (3.9 %), hl. m. Praha (4.6 %) and Mladá Boleslav (4.7 %). Share of unemployed - women was 7.6 % and share of unemployed - men was 8.4 %.

By March 31, 2013, job offices registered altogether 38,863 vacancies. That is by 4,228 vacancies more than in the preceding month and by 1,043 vacancies less than in the same period of the preceding year. At present, there have been 15.1 job seekers for one vacancy at average, the highest amount being in districts of Bruntál (66.2), Havlíčkův Brod and Karviná (both 49.9), Most (46.3) and Ústí nad Labem (44.4). In this monitored period, there were registered by job offices 4,700 vacancies for persons with reduced working capacity that is 13.5 seekers per vacancy. In the case of school leavers and juveniles, there were registered altogether 7,889 vacancies, that is 4.5 seekers per vacancy.

Unemployment rate (EUROSTAT - ILO) was 8.0 % in Febuary 2013.
