Information on Unemployment in the Czech Republic by April 30, 2013

By April 30, 2013 job offices registered altogether 565,228 job seekers. That is by 22,540 less than at the end of March 2013. The number of job seekers increased by 67,906 persons compared with the same period of the preceding year. The number of available job seekers (job seekers currently available for work) was 552,222 (551,662 in age 15 to 64 years).

In the course of April 30, job offices registered altogether 46,570 newcomers. That is by 2,671 job seekers more than in the preceding month and by 6,691 newly registered job seekers more than in April of the preceding year.

In April, job offices registration was terminated with 69,110 job seekers. New jobs have been taken up by 43,126 persons. In the course of the above-said month, job offices excluded 25,984 job seekers due to other reasons.

A monthly decrease of unemployed was registered by 74 districts in the Czech Republic – relatively the greatest increase was monitored in districts Jeseník (13.1 %), Prachatice (12.3 %), Pelhřimov (12.0 %), Jindřichův Hradec and Znojmo (both 11.9 %) and Písek (10.0 %).

At the end of April, job offices registered 271,827 female job seekers, that is 48.1 % of the unemployed in total, and 62,464 persons with reduced working capacity, that is 11.1 % of the unemployed in total.

By April 30, 2013, 34,351 school leavers with all levels of education and juveniles were registered. Thus they share in the total unemployment by 6.1 % (March 2013 – 6.0 %, April 2012 – 5.3 %).

In April 2013, job offices paid off unemployment benefits to 126,180 job seekers, that is 22.3 % of all job seekers under registration (March 2013 – 22.5 %, April 2012 – 21.8 %).

Since 1^st January 2013, the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs has replaced the indicator of registered unemployment with a new indicator named the share of unemployed persons. It is the ratio of available job seekers aged 15 to 64 years in the population of the same age.

By April 30, 2013, the share of unemployed was 7.7 % (March 2013 – 8.0 %, April 2012 – 6.6 %, time series /web/en/unemployment-in-the-czech-republic). Share of unemployed same or higher than average of the Czech Republic was shown in 40 districts, the highest being in Most (13.6 %), Bruntál (13.1 %), Ústí nad Labem (12.1 %) and Jeseník (12.0 %).The lowest unemployment rate was in districts of Praha-východ (3.3 %), Praha-západ (3.8 %), hl. m. Praha and Mladá Boleslav (both 4.7 %) and Plzeň-jih (4.9 %). Share of unemployed - women was 7.5 % and share of unemployed - men was 7.9 %.

By April 30, 2013, job offices registered altogether 39,763 vacancies. That is by 900 vacancies more than in the preceding month and by 1,944 vacancies less than in the same period of the preceding year. At present, there have been 14.2 job seekers for one vacancy at average, the highest amount being in districts of Havlíčkův Brod (73.9), Bruntál (61.5), Karviná (51.1), Ústí nad Labem (43.5) and Most (37.4). In this monitored period, there were registered by job offices 3,398 vacancies for persons with reduced working capacity that is 18.4 seekers per vacancy. In the case of school leavers and juveniles, there were registered altogether 5,867 vacancies, that is 5.9 seekers per vacancy.

Unemployment rate (EUROSTAT - ILO) was 7.3 % in March 2013.
